The auction house’s description
Ornaments of the Natural World: The Collection of Joan Bogart As part of American Week at STAIR, we are proud to present Ornaments of the Natural World: The Collection of Joan Bogart on Wednesday, August 19th. For fifty years, Joan Bogart has been a trusted source for exemplars of 19th-century Furniture, Lighting, and other Decorative Arts. This sale of over 150 lots reflects a lifetime spent in pursuit of the finest examples of the genre, defined throughout by an uncompromising eye. Forging relationships with curators and collectors alike, Joan has placed items in collections such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Brooklyn Museum, The Strong Museum, The White House, Winterthur Museum, Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, and The High Museum. Highlights of the sale include a rare Belter double settee tête-à-tête, an Anthony G. Quervelle stenciled marble-top center table, and an extensive selection of garden furniture and ornament. Lighting highlights feature an impressive array of chandeliers, gasoliers, and Sinumbra and Argand lamps. This deeply personal collection offers a window into what Joan Bogart loved most: the pursuit of beauty and objects with a story to tell.
