Description

Heroically. Joe Shuster (Canadian-American, 1914–1992)

Ink on paper depicting Superman standing in a heroic frontal pose with hands at his waist, cape falling behind him, and the iconic “S” shield prominently displayed on his chest. The figure is rendered with bold black outlines, cross-hatching, and simplified comic-book shading, emphasizing the strong graphic style associated with early superhero illustration.

Signed “Joe Shuster” and dated “1982” lower right.

The verso bears a purple stamp reading “Murray A. Harris, 11644 Ventura Ave., North Hollywood Calif. 91603,” together with additional faint printed text beneath. These markings are noted as present on the work and are not independently authenticated.

Joe Shuster was a Canadian-American comic book artist best known as the co-creator, with writer Jerry Siegel, of Superman. His clean linework, strong heroic proportions, and dynamic visual language helped establish the foundational look of one of the most influential characters in comic-book history.
