Description

Figures Composition. Keith Haring (American, 1958–1990)

Dynamic figurative composition on paper featuring two simplified human forms rendered in bold black contour against a vivid yellow ground. One blue figure stands upright with arms extended while an orange-red figure moves across the foreground in an exaggerated, rhythmic pose. Short radiating motion marks surrounding the figures reinforce the sense of movement, energy, and interaction that became central to Haring’s visual language.

The composition is executed with flat, saturated color fields and strong black outlines, creating the immediate graphic impact associated with Haring’s imagery. The reduced forms, animated gestures, and emphatic movement lines give the work a striking sense of spontaneity and urban-pop vitality.

Technique appears to be gouache and/or acrylic paint with black ink or marker on paper. Bears “© K. Haring” notation vertically at the lower right margin.

The reverse bears an “Art Gallery New York, 530 West 25th Street, New York, NY 10001” stamp at the upper left, together with a circular stamp at the lower right reading “Authorized by the Estate of Keith Haring” surrounding the initials “KH.”

An eye-catching and highly decorative composition combining Haring’s unmistakable vocabulary of simplified human forms, bold contour, vivid primary color, and kinetic movement.
