Description
Salvo (Salvatore Mangione, Italian, 1947–2015)
A luminous and highly atmospheric winter landscape depicting a snow-covered alpine village nestled beneath monumental mountains and an extraordinary chromatic sky. The composition is dominated by intense shades of pink, crimson, violet, blue and orange, transforming the traditional mountain landscape into a dreamlike and almost otherworldly vision.
The quiet architecture of the village, partially buried beneath sweeping fields of snow, contrasts dramatically with the glowing sky and suspended cloud-like forms above the mountains. Carefully arranged houses, trees and distant slopes create a strong sense of depth, while the highly saturated palette gives the scene a poetic, meditative quality characteristic of Salvo’s celebrated exploration of landscape, light and memory.
The reverse of the canvas bears the handwritten inscription “Le Valli,” together with an additional handwritten signature/name. Presented in a substantial dark wood frame with a light inner liner.
