Description

Vase with Baroque Floral Ornament. Tater Vera (Peruvian, Cusco)

Handcrafted glazed ceramic vase of tall sculptural form, built in a succession of rounded and flared sections separated by pronounced dark glazed bands. The distinctive silhouette gives the piece a strong architectural quality, while the hand-painted decoration creates an elegant balance between volume, rhythm, and ornament.

The surface is richly decorated with symmetrical floral and vegetal motifs rendered in soft tones of olive green, cream, ochre, and muted blue. Large stylized blossoms, scrolling leaves, petal forms, and geometric details repeat around the body in carefully organized registers, producing a refined ornamental effect reminiscent of historic Andean decorative traditions interpreted through contemporary Cusco craftsmanship.

The deep dark glazed bands create dramatic visual separation between each decorative section and emphasize the vessel’s sculptural profile. The glossy finish enhances the contrast between the darker structural elements and the delicately painted botanical imagery, giving the ceramic considerable depth and visual richness.

Particularly striking is the relationship between the flared upper mouth, compressed central sections, and broad rounded lower body. This layered construction creates a strong vertical presence while allowing each painted register to function almost as an independent decorative panel within the overall composition.

The combination of unusual form, intricate hand-painted decoration, harmonious palette, and luminous glazed surface makes this an especially sophisticated example of contemporary Cusco ceramic art, ideal as a statement decorative object or as part of a collection devoted to Peruvian and Latin American craftsmanship.
