Description
This revolver is a Dan Wesson Model 15-2 chambered in .357 Magnum, manufactured at the original Monson, Massachusetts factory (serial number 65323).
Monson-era Dan Wesson revolvers are widely regarded by collectors and silhouette shooters as the peak of Dan Wesson quality, known for high-grade bluing, smooth double-action pulls, and exceptional mechanical accuracy.
Interchangeable Barrel System
Mechanism: Dan Wesson revolvers use a tensioned barrel system consisting of an inner threaded barrel, an outer barrel shroud, and a muzzle nut. Clamping the shroud against the receiver under tension significantly reduces barrel vibration and enhances accuracy.
Barrels Shown:
2.5-Inch (Installed): Short snub-nosed setup ideal for concealed carry or compact home defense.
4-Inch (Uninstalled): Standard target and duty length featuring a ventilated rib and red front sight insert.
8-Inch (Uninstalled): Long-range target, hunting, or metallic silhouette shooting shroud with a ventilated rib and red front sight insert.
Factory Paperwork: The uninstalled barrel assemblies are still wrapped in their original VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) protective paper wrappers, which helps preserve their blue finish.
Notable Design & Hardware Features
Crane-Mounted Cylinder Latch: Unlike Smith & Wesson or Colt revolvers with frame-mounted latches, Dan Wesson places the latch forward on the crane. This creates a dual-locking mechanism for a tighter lockup and prevents the latch from biting into the shooter's thumb under heavy recoil.
Grip Peg Frame: The frame terminates in a short cylindrical grip peg rather than a full grip frame. This allows single-screw bottom attachment and easy swapping of aftermarket grips like the fitted Hogue rubber Monogrip.
Fully Adjustable Target Sights: Features an adjustable target rear sight paired with interchangeable front sight blades.
Combined Estimate: As a package featuring the revolver, three barrel lengths (2.5", 4", and 8"), and original protective wrapping, the estimated market value ranges from $1,000 to $1,300. (Included the original yellow-handled barrel wrench, feeler gauge,).
