Description
An oil on canvas portrait of a wealthy mature woman with black dress, buttoned up tightly to her neck, lace collar, and dark hair pulled neatly into a tight bun. With the dark background the overall effect is quite a formal dignified portrait, very typical of the late Victorian era, c1880-1900, anonymous, set in a gilded and gessoed very heavy frame, the painting has been relined and there appears to be restoration to a scratch just to the right of her face and above her shoulder, frame has very few minor scuffs. 36"W x 41"H frame size. 23.5"W x 28.5"H image size.
