1848 Large Cent

1848 Large Cent. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the Braided Hair Large Cent features a portrait of Liberty on the obverse and a classic agricultural wreath surrounding the denomination on the reverse. Struck from nearly pure copper, Large Cents were the workhorse one-cent coins of early America and circulated extensively during the mid-19th century.
