Description

1853 Seated Liberty Dime – With Arrows, struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This historically significant variety was part of a major change to U.S. silver coinage in 1853, making it an interesting and collectible issue for Seated Liberty enthusiasts. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, strike, and overall appearance.

The Seated Liberty Dime was designed by Christian Gobrecht and features Liberty seated on a rock, holding a liberty pole and shield. In 1853, arrows were added to either side of the date to indicate a reduction in the weight of the dime. This With Arrows design was used during 1853 and 1855–1856, with 1854 serving as a transition year.

The 1853 Philadelphia issue had a mintage of 12,078,010 coins. The coin was struck in 90% silver and 10% copper, weighs approximately 2.67 grams, measures about 17.9 mm in diameter, and features a reeded edge.
