St. Ann's Church, built in 1854, was for many years the heart of Griffintown, a working class, Irish-catholic Montreal community. The church was demolished in 1970 and the location is now the site of Parc Griffintown-St-Ann. This nostalgic scene hearkens back to Tomalty's childhood - the artist, raised in a strong Irish household, played hockey growing up, and later for the Montreal Royals.
