Description
This lot includes six Jefferson War Nickels minted during World War II, from 1942 through 1945. To conserve nickel for wartime military production, the U.S. Mint changed the composition of these coins to include 35% silver, 56% copper, and 9% manganese. War nickels can be identified by the large mintmark above Monticello on the reverse, including the distinctive “P” mintmark used for the first time on circulating U.S. coins.
