Description
This intaglio etching on paper by A. J. Moir depicts a pastoral scene of two stone cottages with thatched roofs nestled among mature trees and dense shrubbery. The composition is executed with fine, fluid hatched lines, and the artist's signature is visible in the plate at the lower right. A rectangular plate mark is evident around the perimeter of the image area. The print is presented in a cream-colored mat and a simple black-painted wooden frame. The reverse of the frame bears a stamp for Rembrandt Galleries, North Vancouver, B.C. Visible image area approx. 17.1 cm x 12.7 cm (6.75 in x 5 in) Outer frame approx. 34.9 cm x 28.6 cm (13.75 in x 11.25 in) (Dimensions measured from visible tape measure in inches). Condition: The paper exhibits significant overall toning and several circular stains, most notably in the sky area. The mat shows an old adhesive residue mark in the upper right margin. The black frame displays scuffing and paint loss along the edges. The paper backing is brittle, torn, and shows signs of age.
