Description
The Park Theatre in Philadelphia opened on September 16, 1889, at the corner of North Broad Street and Fairmount, built as a traditional Victorian theater featuring an orchestra level and two balconies, it initially hosted standard theatrical productions and variety shows, in 1911 it joined the Nixon theatre chain and was renamed the Empire Theatre shifting its focus toward vaudeville, minstrel acts, burlesque and silent films, the theatre closed down as an entertainment venue in the late 1910s as the surrounding neighborhood shifted, the original Victorian structure fell into disrepair and was demolished around 1968–1970 to make way for a modern Salvation Army facility on the same site
