Description

with Straw Hat. Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853–1890)

Oil on canvas depicting a bust-length portrait of a bearded man wearing a broad yellow straw hat and dark blue jacket, set against a richly textured blue-green background. The work is executed with expressive, visible brushstrokes and strong contrasts of yellow, blue, green, and warm flesh tones, evoking the vivid color and energetic handling associated with Van Gogh’s portraiture.

Signed “Vincent” lower left. Framed.

The verso bears a printed label inscribed “Musée d’Orsay, Paris,” with references to Vincent van Gogh and additional handwritten information, together with several collection-style ink stamps. These markings are noted as present on the work and are not independently authenticated.

Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter whose expressive use of color, vigorous brushwork, and emotionally charged compositions profoundly influenced modern art. His portraits and self-portraits are particularly renowned for their psychological intensity and distinctive painterly technique.
