Description
Rider on Horseback. Maynard Dixon (American, 1875–1946)
Ink and wash on paper depicting a Western rider mounted on horseback and traveling across an open landscape. The composition is rendered in a restrained monochromatic palette with confident black linework, broad gray washes, and economical brushstrokes that define the rider, horse, distant terrain, and sparse vegetation. The horse is captured in motion with one foreleg raised, giving the scene a strong sense of rhythm and forward movement.
Signed “Maynard Dixon” lower left.
