Description
A collection of commemorative philatelic items issued by Canada Post celebrating the National Hockey League. The set comprises two 50th NHL All-Star Game commemorative folders, issued circa 2000, and a group of eight official souvenir envelopes from the 2016 Great Canadian Forwards series. Produced in printed card and paper, the blue and red folders contain a souvenir sheet of six circular stamps featuring hockey legends Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Maurice Richard, Doug Harvey, Bobby Orr, and Jacques Plante. The folders were illustrated by Vince McIndoe and designed by Dan Fell, with printing by the Canadian Bank Note company. The eight souvenir envelopes, or first day covers, are dated 23 September 2016. Each features a player portrait, team logo watermark, matching postage stamp, and a pictorial Day of Issue postmark. The group includes three Sidney Crosby envelopes (postmarked Cole Harbour, NS), two Darryl Sittler envelopes (postmarked Kitchener, ON), one Mark Messier envelope (postmarked Edmonton, AB), one Guy Lafleur envelope (postmarked Thurso, QC), and one Phil Esposito envelope (postmarked Sault Ste. Marie, ON). Dimensions: Envelope width approx. 22.9 cm (measured against a ruler). Condition: The collection is in excellent, uncirculated condition. The folders and envelopes show no visible signs of wear, creasing, or age-related foxing. Postmarks and printed details remain crisp and well-defined.
