2014-2015 Philatelic Collection

A collection of modern Canadian philatelic items issued by Canada Post between 2014 and 2015. The group includes several First Day Covers (FDCs) and souvenir sheets. The primary focus is The Franklin Expedition series (Scott #2852a), comprising multiple FDCs and souvenir sheets featuring maps of the Arctic exploration and the HMS Erebus, with circular cancellations from Gjoa Haven, NU, dated 6 August 2015. Included is a pair of Wait for Me, Daddy FDCs featuring the 1940 photograph, cancelled in New Westminster, BC, on 4 October 2014. The lot also contains a commemorative FDC for author Alice Munro, cancelled in Wingham, ON, on 10 July 2015, and a Nelson Mandela memorial postcard with a Permanent (P) rate stamp, cancelled in Ottawa, ON, on 30 January 2015. A pair of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Canada souvenir sheets are present, featuring denominations of $1.20 and $2.50 for sites including Dinosaur Provincial Park, Wood Buffalo National Park, Red Bay Basque Whaling Station, Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, and the Kluane / Wrangell-St. Elias / Glacier Bay / Tatshenshini-Alsek region.
